A collection of the novels and tales of Benjamin Disraeli, a British statesman, Conservative politician and writer who twice served as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. Disraeli is unique among Victorian novelists in that, outside of specialists in Victorian literature, he is remembered much more for his political life than his career as a novelist. This set contains: Vivian Grey, the author's first novel, originally published anonymously, and Ixion, a contemporary revision of the myth of Ixion. The Young Duke, following the life of George Augustus Frederick, an infant who succeeds to the wealthy dukedom of St James on the death of his father, and Coningsby, the first of the Young England trilogy. Alroy, a fictionalised account of the life of David Alroy, a Jewish Messiah claimant, and Sybil, the second of the Young England trilogy. Henrietta Temple, following young Ferdinand Armine, the scion of an aristocratic Catholic family who, while betrothed to his cousin Katherine, meets and falls in love with another young woman, and Tancred, the third of the Young England trilogy. Venetia, a lightweight romantic fantasy, and Contarini Fleming, the most autobiographical of Disraeli's novels, following Contarini Fleming who decides to run away to Venice. Lothair, the first novel written after Disraeli's first term as Prime Minister, dealing with the comparative merits of the Catholic and Anglican churches as heirs of Judaism. CONDITION Bound in half calf with cloth covered boards. Externally, smart with light rubbing to the extremities and fading to the spine. The odd small mark to the boards. Internally, firmly bound. Very speedy delivery and extremely well packaged. The book is in wonderful condition for age, better I think than described. This now sits alongside a companion volume, another work of Worcestershire historian and antiquarian, John Noak. I very much looking forward to reading it. As for price, I snatched the offer and am extremely pleased that I did. This seller is a perfect find on eBay and I would purchase from them without hesitation, saved seller, excellent.

Thank you so much, Katherine, for a truly pluperfect transaction.
