"Be it remembered that on the twenty-third day of February, in the fifty-first year of the Independence of the United States of America, A.D. 1827, Marcus T.C. Gould, of the said district, hath deposited..." Fair Condition hardcover book. Exterior: Brown leather binding is clean, shopworn. Surface scratches and scrapes. Corners heavily worn through to boards. Back panel detached, most of its leather binding is missing, as well as part of the board. Interior: Cracked front hinge. Last free page is detached. Endpapers are clean, toned. Bottom corner of last 61 pages is torn off...not affecting any text. Front paste down has an inscription in fountain pen "Presented to Lester Cornly (or Connly) by John J. Cornell 9th mo 20th 1880 his 54th birthday". My research shows that John J. Cornell was a traveling Quaker minister and member of the Farmington, N.Y. Quaker community; and that was his correct birthday. Pages are clean, wavy, uniform light foxing. Title page has pencil writing which has been penciled out. 300 pages. Contents: A very old and rare offer of Quaker religious material, includes interesting local history. NOTE: I only use photos of the actual item I'm selling (no stock photos). I combine shipping.
