He was elected to the U.S. House of Representative and the U.S. Senate and served as Vice President under Dwight D. Eisenhower. He was defeated for the presidency in 1960 by JOHN F. KENNEDY. White's book reaches its climax with the clash between JIMMY CARTER and RONALD REAGAN.
