Early Leather Bound Edition New York: Bloch Publishing Company, 1917. Publisher's maroon leather on board and spine. Fair Condition. Rippling to leather. Wear at corners and spine ends. One side cover is detached from book. The play was originally published in 1779 as a fervent plea for religious tolerance. Its performance was forbidden by the church during Lessing's lifetime, and it was first performed in 1783 at the Döbbelinsches Theater in Berlin.
