Dore The world-famous novel by Miguel de Cervantes "The Cunning Hidalgo Don Quixote of La Mancha" (1605, 1615), initially perceived by readers simply as a funny and entertaining book, only many years later was recognized as one of the greatest philosophical works, which gave rise to a new stage in the history of European literature of the New Age. According to a survey conducted in 2002 by the Nobel Institute in Oslo among the world's most famous writers, "Don Quixote" was recognized as the best literary work in the history of mankind. In this edition, the novel is given in the classic translation by N. M. Lyubimov (1951-1952) and is accompanied by a full cycle of woodcut illustrations based on drawings by Gustave Doré in 1862-1863. The text is accompanied by a commentary and an article specially written for this edition by V. E. Bagno, one of the most authoritative Russian specialists on Cervantes' work. In addition to analyzing the text of the novel, Bagno presents the reader with the history of the perception of Cervantes' work in different countries and in different epochs.
