Shishkina Illustrations by Anastasia Zykina The name of Leonid Nikolaevich Andreev (1871-1919) is not one of the "eternal companions". Meanwhile, at the beginning of the XX century his popularity was deafening. An artist of bright and original talent, a seeker of truth and experimenter, Andreev opened in literature a unique world of disturbing thoughts, philosophical moods, stirring the hearts and minds of contemporaries. This collection aims to acquaint the reader with the most striking examples of Leonid Andreev's prose, characteristic of the range of his problems and artistic pursuits, representing different periods of his work. The afterword and commentary were prepared for this book by literary critics L.A.Jesuitova and L.I.Shishkina. The book concludes with a chronicle of L.Andreev's life and work, as well as reflections and memories of the writer by M.Voloshin, I.Annensky, A.Blok, M.Gorky and A.Kuprin. The book for the first time reproduces a cycle of illustrations by Anastasia Zykina, made especially for this edition. ABOUT THE ARTIST Anastasia Zykina was born in 1978 in Kirov.
