Read editions that are complete and are not edited. You must read it in Swift’s own words. ***** First published in 1726, Gulliver’s Travels was an immediate sensation. The story reflects Swift’s political experience and is considered his masterpiece. The story is divided into four parts. Each part recounts Gulliver’s voyages to different kingdoms. Swift’s satire (as it is rightly called) deals with the subject of absurdity (the cracking of an egg), the snobbish nature of human culture, the impracticable use of lofty language (more showy than helpful) and excessive rationalism. Each kingdom he visits presents spectacular events and conversations that leave you laughing and seeing a little truth also. We all focus on the first part Lilliputians, but the other kingdoms are just as interesting. Laputa (The Floating Kingdom) is full of theoreticians and academics who exert power through technology and control their subjects through the use of abstract theory. Or his visit to Struldbrugg where he encounters the Luggnaggs (Immortals), who cannot die but still age. I won’t give it all away but I guarantee you will be profoundly affected by this story! Gulliver’s Travels reminds me a lot of today. SHIPPING: USPS Media Mail with Tracking TERMS OF SALE: I accept returns within 30 days of buyer receiving the book. Book must be returned.
