Description
enutt5 Store The Signed First Edition Society published, exclusively for its members, deluxe leather-bound limited First Editions of the day's most important new books, privately printed by the Franklin Library and personally signed by each author. These Signed First Edition books marked the very first publication of an outstanding new work. To accomplish this, the Signed First Edition Society made special arrangements with America's leading publishing houses. Every volume contains a statement of authenticity attesting to the First Edition status of the book and certifying the author's signature. Each volume, printed and illustrated exclusively for Society members, was fully bound in hand-cut leather, covers and spines embossed with 22-karat gold. The spines were "hubbed" with raised horizontal ridges. The books vary in height, size, cover design, color, and grain. Leading artists and book illustrators were commissioned to create original works of art exclusively for the publications. They were never to appear in any other editions. Each book also featured distinctive and specially designed endpapers. Quality book papers were used, custom-milled to be acid free. The pages were gathered into separate hand-sewn "signatures" and the edges gilded with a tarnish-free finish to seal the volume from dust and moisture. Finally, a ribbon page marker was bound into each book. Each author wrote a special forward that appeared only in The Signed First Edition publication. In addition, the Editors of the Society included, in each book, a letter discussing the author and his publication. The following collection of 41 books was obtained through Charter Membership in The Signed First Edition Society during the time frame 1983-1987. No book in this collection has been read or handled extensively, having been shelved in indirect light since received. Each book is therefore in pristine condition.
