Year of publication: 2017 ISBN: 978-5-93898-641-1 Pages: 456 Illustrations: 51 Print run: 800 copies. ABOUT THE BOOK Text preparation, commentary, article: M. Y. Lyubimova Illustrations: V. A. Mishin The famous novel "We" (1922) played a fateful role in the life of its author, Yevgeny Zamyatin. In the writer's homeland, the still unpublished novel was declared a "political satire" on the Soviet system, and Zamyatin himself after a brutal harassment in the end "pointed at the door". And while the whole world was reading this book, in the USSR it was known only from samizdat lists. And only in 1988, 66 years after its creation, the full text of the novel was printed in the magazine "Znamya". The novel "We", which is set in the distant future, describes a society of rigid totalitarian control over the individual. The state, ruled by the "elected" on a non-alternative basis "Benefactor", regulates even the intimate life of its numbered citizens. But "human life ... cannot be artificially rebuilt according to programs and blueprints, like a transatlantic steamship," Zamyatin argued, "sooner or later the schemes and blueprints will be blown up, as the history of mankind has proved many times. This book "is important if only because it is prophetic rather than topical," believed the historian of Russian literature Gleb Struve. And the creator of the novel-anti-utopia "1984" George Orwell again and again stated that the novel "We" should be republished, and urged the reading public to look for this book. In addition to the scientifically prepared text of the novel, this edition contains extensive commentary and an extensive article by Marina Lyubimova, a well-known St. Petersburg researcher of Zamyatin's work. Illustrations by the recognized St. Petersburg artist Valery Mishin, made especially for this book, are reproduced. ABOUT THE ARTIST Valery Mishin was born in 1939 in Simferopol. In 1962 he graduated from the Sverdlovsk Art School, and in 1968 he graduated from the Painting Department of the Mukhina LVCPU. Member of the Union of Artists of Russia, member of the UNESCO International Federation of Artists.
