Description

Easton Press leather edition of Eugene Lyons' "Herbert Hoover: A Biography," a COLLECTOR'S edition, one of the LIBRARY OF THE PRESIDENTS series, published in 1964. Bound in burgundy leather, the book has paper end leaves, hubbed spine, satin book marker, acid-free paper, Symth-sewn binding, gold gilding on three edges---in near FINE condition. COLLECTOR'S NOTES is included. Herbert Hoover, who lived from 1874-1964, was the 31st President of the U.S., 1929-1933. Hoover's religion and boyhood experiences had a profound influence on his public life. His Quaker upbringing contributed to a lifelong devotion to alleviate human suffering and to further world peace. Hoover graduated from STANFORD UNIVERSITY with a mining degree and and made himself a millionaire by the age of 40. Called on to head the U.S. relief efforts during and after WW I, he saved millions of people in war-ravaged Europe from sickness and starvation. Hoover was appointed Secretary of Commerce under President Harding and was elected President of the U.S. in 1928, promising a "New Day," but American plunged into the Great Depression just seven months after Hoover took the oath of office. His native calm and seeming reluctance to invoke federal powers made him seem aloof and unfeeling to the suffering around him. Republican Hoover was swept out of office by Democrat FRANKLIN D. ROOSEVELT in a landslide election of 1932. Hoover had promised a "chicken in every pot," but the Democrats retorted: "there ain't no chicken and there ain't no pot." 444 pages. Seller earns high marks for very safe wrapping, quick delivery and right price. Book is in excellent condition. To no fault of seller, and unusual deviation of normal high standards of the publisher, I would not recommend this book to others. It has has very disappointing photography that distracts from art of Rodin. But I highly recommend the seller.

Quite the surprised, at first I thought I ordered something from a pet shop because of the box turns out to be my order xD. My books were well packaged no noticeable box damage internally and externally. They were as described in the listing and shipped promptly in a 2 weeks window. Would recommend seller.
