Year of publication: 2015 ISBN: 978-5-9-93898-530-8 Pages: 360 Illustrations: 101 Print run: 1000 copies. ABOUT THE BOOK Illustrations by G. A. V. Traugot. Article by N. L. Eliseev. Daniil Granin's novel is a look at the Great Patriotic War from the inside, not from the point of view of generals and marshals who sent whole armies into the furnace and meat grinder, but from the inside, from the trenches and trenches. The author gives the floor to a simple lieutenant, one of those to whom we owe victory. Those whose deaths were reported by the official Informburo reports as "minor losses in local battles". Those who would hardly have chosen such a fate, had it been his will.On the pages of this novel as the main character live two different people - young, impulsive, daring, romantic Lieutenant D. and wise, knowing the value of life, learned to withstand the circumstances of the author of the book. The edition is unique, because it met eyewitnesses of the past war - Daniel Granin, who fought on the front lines of the defense of Leningrad, and Alexander Traugot, as a teenager survived the blockade. The illustrations were made by Alexander Traugot especially for this edition. ABOUT THE ARTISTS Brothers Alexander Georgievich (b. 1931) and Valery Georgievich (1936-2009) Traugots were born in Leningrad. They studied at the Middle Art School at the Academy of Arts. Valery then continued his education at the Moscow State Art Institute named after V. I. Surikov (sculpture department) and at the sculpture department of the Leningrad Higher Art and Industrial School named after V. I. Mukhina. However, Alexander and Valery considered their parents - artists Georgy Nikolaevich Traugot (1903-1961) and Vera Pavlovna Yanova (1907-2004) - as their main teachers. "Dad believed that if a person does not work 18 hours, it is already a hopeless slacker, about which there is nothing to say. "An artist," he liked to repeat, "must have two states: either working or sleeping. We were brought up in an atmosphere of very great respect for the amount of labor", - recalls Alexander Georgievich.
