Description

CRY FOR THE LIONS Gareth Patterson AMWELL PRESS leather SIGNED African hunting CRY FOR THE LIONS Gareth Patterson AMWELL PRESS leather SIGNED African hunting Click images to enlarge Description CRY FOR THE LIONS by Gareth Patterson was published by the AMWELL PRESS in 1988. This is the twenty third volume in the National Sporting Fraternity's "AFRICAN HUNTING HERITAGE SERIES". ********************************************** The AMWELL PRESS is the publishing arm of THE NATIONAL SPORTING FRATERNITY founded in March, 1976 by Jim Rikhoff. He was know and liked throughout the sport publishing industry as a result of his early founding of the Winchester Press. Because of his popularity with the industry he was able to get a who's who of international big game hunters and sport hunters as authors. The titles in the series would include original works by professional hunters, books by active sport hunters, anthologies that contained selections from both contemporary hunters and classic works and reprints of sought after titles. The titles are limited to 1000 copies with beautiful leather bindings and slipcases. These titles are all SIGNED by the author or editor or both and by Jim Rikhoff. In many editions you will find great photographs from the authors personal collections while in others you will find illustrations from artists that capture the feel of the stories. ********************************************* CRY FOR THE LIONS is the story of the lions of Mashatu, a private game reserve in the northeastern Tuli Block of Botswana. A combination of history, natural history, encounters, studies of lions in the area, and hunting as well as comments on conservation. ********************************************* Illustrated throughout with ORIGINAL black and white line-drawings and color photographs from GARETH PATTERSON'S private collection. ********************************** Beautiful BROWN leather, spine lettered and pictorially decorated in gilt with the picture of a lion, front cover giltstamped with an stamp of an elephant, covers double-gilt-ruled. ********************************* THE BOOK IS IN VERY FINE CONDITION. THERE IS NO SLIPCASE. ********************************* LIMITED EDITION OF #719/1000 COPIES, SIGNED BY GARETH PATTERSON (THE AUTHOR) AND JIM RIKHOFF (PRESIDENT OF THE NATIONAL SPORTING FRATERNITY). ********************************* - 6 1/4" by 9". - 192 pages. - foreward by Clive Walker - introduction by Gareth Patterson. - type for this volume was set by Kingsport Press, Kingsport, tennessee. - printed on acid-free paper, and Smythe-sewn and custom bound by Printpak Booiks, Cape Town, South Africa. - designed by Monica Sullivan. ********************************************* A CRY FOR THE LIONS is the story of Darky's lion pride, and the other prides within the Mashatu Game Reserve. The total population of the lion in Africa today is estimated at perhaps two hundred thousand. A few decades ago this figure was probably double, and by the beginning of the next century perhaps only a few thousand will grace the rapidly changing Africa continent, and these few thousand will exist only in the national parks and hopefully in game reserves such as Mashatu. The tears have now dried and Gareth Patterson's story is an attempt to create some understanding of these animals and the care they deserve. ********************************** During the next few months, I will be offering a number of additional AMWELL PRESS, leather, signed, slipcased, LIMITED EDITIONS, each sold seperately. I am also selling selected AMWELL PRESS, BRIAR PATCH PRESS AND SAFARI PRESS Limited Edition titles, as well as other LEATHER "Hunting & Fishing" titles from other publishers. An absolutely beautiful signed volume from on of our greats. Already on the shelf in my law office library. Carefully packaged and rapid shipping with reasonable price and just as described. I was honored to see Professor Gould as a guest lecturer while an undergraduate at Auburn and he was as amazing live and I have always wanted this first edition in my library.

Item was received as described. The packaging was excellent. Shipping cost was overpriced. I paid $12 for shipping. It took a week to receive because it was sent via media mail. The media mail label said it only cost $7.50. Nowhere in the listing did it say shipping was media mail. Where did the rest of my shipping payment go?
