Top edge gilt. Binder's stamp of Hatchards, 187, Piccadilly, to the verso of the front free end paper. One of Apperley's best known sporting works, written under his pseudonym "Nimrod". This work was originally published in 1842, as a celebration of country life and field sports, with many anecdotes from the popular sporting author. Illustrated with thirty-six colour plates by Henry Alken. Charles James Apperley (1777-1843) contributed a series of articles to The Sporting Magazine , covering horse races, hunt meets and other sporting events. CONDITION In a half calf binding. Externally, smart and bright except for fading to the spine and a little rubbing to the upper corner of the front board. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright with the odd spot throughout. Spotting to the fore edge.
