Description
I have four of these uniformly bound 3/4 Leather books by Robert Louis Stevenson. They are all in VERY GOOD OR BETTER CONDITION, and are described similarly. They are privately bound in BEAUTIFUL green leather on spine and corners, with marble boards, matching marble endpapers, gilt page tops. They are very solidly bound with very light corner and edge wear, no interior marks or bookplates. This one is fully titled, Across the Plains With Other Essays and Memories. It is the stated 10th Edition (on title page), published in 1902 by Chatto and Windus. The First Edition was published by the same publishers in 1892, 317 clean and solidly bound pages. This volume consists largely of Stevenson's thoughts as he journeyed by train in 1879 from New York to San Francisco, in pursuit of the American woman he had recently met on the Continent (and who was to become his wife). Also included are his subsequent impressions of the city of Monterey. B141
