'Hypatia', published in 1899. An interesting fictionalised account of the life of the philosopher, a touching Christian apologia that shows the Victorian religious sentiments. 'Yeast', published in 1902. Kingsley's first novel, a fraught attack on Roman Catholicism and the Oxford Movement, as well as an attack on celibacy, the social system, bad landlords, and more. 'Hereward the Wake', published in 1902. A popular historical novel, an adventurous tale which follows the Anglo-saxon figure Hereward, as he is leading the resistance against the Normans. Kingsley was a priest for the Church of England, and was a friend and correspondent of Charles Darwin. CONDITION In a half calf binding with cloth to the boards. Externally, smart.
