Description
This original text from 1887 recorded the Acts of the Legislative Assembly of the Territory of New Mexico ( 27th Session ). This was a turbulent and eventful time in New Mexico. While it had been a territory of the United States since 1853, there were 3 decades of bloodshed from Indian resistance to the colonial efforts of the United States. In 1886, Geronimo surrender and the population of New Mexico began to expand rapidly. There was a ranching boom with the opening of the Santa Fe Railroad. During the year recorded in this book, much was evolving and taking shape in New Mexico as it adapted to a different population and set of laws. It was not until 1912 that New Mexico became a state. This scarce vintage reference book is an amazing first hand resource to New Mexico's transition from Territory to State. 408 pages. 9 inches by 6 inches. Leatherbound, published in Las Vegas, New Mexico. This copy is very worn from age and use. The leather boards are soiled, edges and tips eroded. The spine is torn exposing the binding. Someone did a tape repair long ago and the bottom tape has also torn. The book was in the Legal Department of the D & RG Railroad Co. That ownership is stamped in at least two places. Both front and rear hinges are re-enforced with binding tape. The binding is mostly intact though fragile in some spots. The Table of Contents is partially separated. The book is complete. Pages are actually clean and unmarked, completely readable. Ships with USPS media mail, signature required.
