The first sixteen volumes of this set contain Hugo's 'Poesie', of which there are volumes I-IV here. Uniformly bound in a smart quarter calf with marbled paper-covered boards. With the original wraps bound in to all volumes apart from IV and XIV. A bright set containing the poetry of French romantic author, poet and politician, Victor Hugo, known for his celebrated novels 'Les Miserables' and 'The Hunchback of Notre-Dame'. Lacking the title page to XIV, although collated against a copy of the work found online at the Hathi Digital Trust Library. Half title to XIV present, which shows the roman numeral of XIII, as with the copy online. CONDITION Uniformly bound in quarter calf with marbled paper-covered boards. Externally, very smart, with light rubbing to the leather and a few marks. Mark to the tail of the spine of volume VIII. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright, with scattered spotting throughout. Wraps bound in to all volumes apart from IV, and only bound to the rear of XIV. Volume XIV is also lacking title page. Slight chipping and the odd tear to the wraps. The odd ink inscription to title page.
