Beautifully illustrated with a monochrome frontispiece and fifteen monochrome plates. Collated complete. All illustrations are carbon-photographs. Bound in full morocco with a crest to the front, and gilt details. A lovely binding which would benefit from sensitive restoration. This work was written by William Bell Scott and showcases a collection of French artwork contemporary to the time of publication, with an essay on the French school of painting. The work features artwork from noted artists such as Horace Vernet and Edouard Frere. CONDITION Bound in full morocco. Externally worn with front board detached but present, rear joints starting, and rubbing to the joints, and wear and bumping to the extremities of the boards. Bookseller's label to the front pastedown. Internally firmly bound with very lightly age toned pages with spotting.
