A series of forty-four letters describing the detail the issues and treatment of various diseases common to women. By Charles Delucena Meigs, a prominent American obstetrician of the nineteenth century. He is best remembered today for his opposition to obstetrical anesthesia, and for advocating that a doctor's hand could not transmit disease to a patient. Thirty-two pages of adverts to the rear. Errata slip bound to the rear. CONDITION In a full calf binding. Externally, with some rubbing and marks to the boards and spine. Minor bumping to the spine and extremities. Front hinge is starting but firm. Prior owner's ink inscription to the verso to the front endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very lightly age-toned and generally clean with some odd spots. Prior owner's ink inscription to the title page. I bought this for the copy's associations with a family I'm interested in, thanks to the suggestions about provenance in the seller's description. The description and photos told me all I needed to know about the book - clearly the right family, though I have my own view on the individual who owned it - but that is part of the fund of an old book. It arrived promptly - a couple of days' delay caused by UPS - safely packaged and a good price, I think.
