Description
Mrs. Trollope wrote this, her first work, after a trip to America. Her response to the Americas was a little caustic, to say the least. A popular book, it has been called one of the most read books about America during that era. This edition has been re-bound and has a note from the binder—Cameron Bunker of San Francisco, dated 12th March 1976–included as he has recorded the history of this particular text as he knew it when he rebuilt it. Unfortunately, it looks to have been exposed to water and thus, his beautiful binding damaged but the block itself is intact along with the plates illustrating the text.Acceptable Condition: 8vo: English calf (damaged): red label on spine with gilt lettering: paper remnants stuck to back: foxing throughout: several plates with tissue overlays, some overlays torn; repairs to some of the plates (which are wonderful, btw: full of character): cracked front gutter: “Domestic Manners of the Americans”: by Mrs. Trollope: fourth edition/complete in one volume: London: Printed for Whittaker, Treacher, & Co: New York: reprinted for the Bookseller: 1832. The shipping was fast and the book was extremely well packaged. The book itself is exactly as pictured and although rare books are expected to be expensive, I was able to get a small discount that at least covered the shipping. I'm happy with my purchase, so I can say that it was a good value. I love to find old relics that kind of come full circle to find their home. Welcome home to this little gem in the form of a small book. I will take very good care of you! I highly recommend this seller.

This book far exceeded my expectations! It’s in the most pristine condition of any of the old books that I own. Robins Rare Books is amazing. Always a great value, very well packaged, quick shipping and always as described. I am a repeat customer and will always check listing from this seller first when I’m in the market for an antiquarian book.

This arrived safely and it was well packaged. This is exactly as described and it included a thank you on a postcard. This was well thought out and the seller knows how to handle and ship rare books. This was worth more than it was sold for, in my opinion, and I greatly appreciate doing business with this person.
