Complete in three volumes. The third series of Theodore Hook's entertaining short stories, this third series containing two novellas. Containing 'Cousin William', and 'Gervase Skinner'. Written by Theodore Hook. Hook was a man of letters and composer, well known for his practical jokes, especially for the Berners Street hoax of 1810. Hook was also the recipient of the first ever postcard, which he probably sent to himself. CONDITION In the original quarter calf binding with marbled paper to the boards. Externally, generally smart, with some rubbing to the boards and spines. Minor bumping to the spines and extremities. Label to the tail of the spine of Volume I. Rear hinges are starting but firm. Front hinge of Volume III is starting but firm. Internally, generally firmly bound. Pages are very lightly age-toned and generally clean with some spots. The occasional pencil line to the margins. First three leaves of Volume I are working loose. Pages 323-326 of Volume III are detached but present. Overall Condition: Very Good GLOSSARY OF TERMS Overall Condition (Dustwrapper condition rating is shown after that for the book itself, where a dustwrapper is present) Fine - Very well preserved copy showing very little wear Very Good Indeed - Only one or two minor faults, really a very attractive copy Very Good - Quite a wide term meaning no major faults but probably several smaller ones often expected given the age of the book, but still a respectable copy Good - Meaning not very good. Some more serious faults as will be described in the condition report under 'condition' Good Only - Meaning one or more faults that could really do with repair Fair - As with good only above but with other faults leaving a compromised copy even after repair Poor - Really bad and possibly seriously incomplete.
