Consisting of the two volume first series, published in 1827 and consisting of the three tales 'Chrystal Croftangry's Narrative', 'The Highland Widow', 'The Two Drovers', and 'The Surgeon's Daughter'. And the three volume second series published in 1828, and containing 'St Valentine's Day, or, The Fair Maid of Perth'. With each volume retaining the original half title. Part of Scott's 'Waverley' series, this work was highly regarded by contemporary readers. With publisher's catalogues to the rear of volume II of the first series, dated October 1827, and to the rear of volume III of the second series. CONDITION In quarter morocco bindings, with marbled paper covered boards. Externally, excellent, with light fading to back strips. Otherwise, lovely. Internally, firmly bound. Pages generally clean and bright, with the odd instance of spotting, most concentrated to first and last few leaves of each volume.
