Bound set of Select English translations with brief biographies of the poets by John Rooke. Included poets include Jacopo Sannazaro (Sannazarius), Hugo Grotius (de Groot), Baptista Amaltheus, Daniel Heinsius, George Buchanan, and M. Heironymous Vida. Several of the translations are decorated with lovely woodcuts as flourishes or capitals or headings or chapter ends, mostly in the Sannazarius although the others have nice headings. Pages and paper are exceedingly clean and nice. Content legible and interesting. Good Condition: 8vo: Leather bound with black tape at spine; leather scuffed; leather corners: black tape inside front with some dirt marks on inside front and name (W.B.Anderson) on free endpaper: split at front at title page: writing in brown ink on title page of “Silk-Worms”: “It was translated also by an anonymous author 1723”; split at back gutter with tape showing: woodcut capitals and decorations throughout at random points: Eclogues dated 1725 with separate title page; compilation dated 1726: “Select Translations from the Works of Sannazarius, H.
