Historic ink inscriptions to the rear three blank pages. William Lloyd (1627-1717) was appointed bishop of St Asaph in 1680 until 1692. He was fervently against the Roman Catholic tendencies of James II and, as a consequence, was one of the Seven Bishops who were tried and acquitted for seditious libel in June 1688. This trial acted as a catalyst for the 1688 Glorious Revolution and deposition of James II. Lloyd wrote a series of pamphlets against Popery, and also this ambitious work, a Historical Account of Church Government. This volume, fascinating for its notable author as well as for its subject matter, is now very scarce. 2 pages of publisher's advertisements to the rear. CONDITION In a full calf binding. Externally sound, with rubbing to the spine and extremities, and splitting to the joints. Hinges are tender: front board held by three cords, rear board held by four cords. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are clean except for some offsetting to the first and last few pages. Overall Condition: Good GLOSSARY OF TERMS Overall Condition (Dustwrapper condition rating is shown after that for the book itself, where a dustwrapper is present) Fine - Very well preserved copy showing very little wear Very Good Indeed - Only one or two minor faults, really a very attractive copy Very Good - Quite a wide term meaning no major faults but probably several smaller ones often expected given the age of the book, but still a respectable copy Good - Meaning not very good. I bought this for the copy's associations with a family I'm interested in, thanks to the suggestions about provenance in the seller's description. The description and photos told me all I needed to know about the book - clearly the right family, though I have my own view on the individual who owned it - but that is part of the fund of an old book. It arrived promptly - a couple of days' delay caused by UPS - safely packaged and a good price, I think.

Excellent in every respect; much better than originally described and pictured. The shipping was exceptionally fast, and the books arrived precisely on schedule. The packaging was both robust and thoughtful, which always makes a most distinct difference. I am grateful for this great value and for your having accepted my offer. Thank you so much for a truly pluperfect transaction.

The shipping was lightning fast, arriving in 3 days from UK to US. The book was packaged with extreme care, very important for an antique book. The overall condition of the book is also unbelievable for its age, even better than described. I’ve purchased numerous other books from this seller, and the quality and price have always been outstanding. Great eBay seller. Thanks!
